Its been hard not to notice some frayed patience with how some of the forum features have or haven't been working.

I'd just like to ask that we all be on our best behavior and play nice in this respect.

My day job is doing this stuff -- database programming against multiple websites and internal systems. We have the advantage of a crew of 6 or 7 people, access to all of the source code that is involved and it can be a serious PITA to keep things running.

Lance and Brock are doing this in their spare time, free of charge, for our pleasure. I doubt that they have access to the source code for the forum and I am sure that they are at the mercy of the hosting service where oftentimes a small server software upgrade can thrash existing programs. It happens every day in my life.

My hat is off to these two gentlemen for giving us this playground!!

Jim, Thank you for your input on this issue!

I’ve been wanting to ask Lance and Brock about it, cause I was curious to what was going on.

I knew something was wrong, but, had no idea what it was.

Thank you for making this a little easier to understand.

Also, I’m sure there are a lot of details to attend to, to keep the OLF running smoothly.
Then there’s those days, when no matter how hard you try to do what needs to done,
it just doesn’t quite happen the way you planned. And, it doesn’t matter whether it is computer
programming, or pouring a concrete footer. Things just don’t go the way you’d like them to sometimes.

I’m sure everything is being done that can be done to resolve this problem.

So, Thank you Lance and Brock for your diligence on this matter!

Robert

Your mostly right. They modified off the shelf software to make this version run like the original forum software (one of Brock's associates did the coding to maintain the cascading threads), so I'm guessing they probably do have the code. That in itself took time and a lot of hard work. Not to mention Lance's cost for a dedicated machine to host the forum and Brock's investment of the coders time from his own business. I don't believe anyone ever thought we would have the membership that we do now with the associated system stresses, time to manage the forum, etc. They have done a remarkable job.

I agree 100% that they need to be cut some slack as problems do happen that are beyond their control (at least it seems to happen all the time in my life ).
